France – LVMH to produce hand sanitizers for free distribution in fight against COVID-19

The current pandemic COVID-19 that is raging across the world has had many corporations and luxury brands step in with assistance in various ways, from donating funds for research for a vaccine, to aid for more medical supplies for the rising numbers. The latest initiative by the luxury giant LVMH is to start using all its perfume and cosmetic production facilities to switch to producing hand sanitizers. In the fight against the spread of the highly contagious corona virus, the hand sanitizer has a very important role to play. Already there is a shortageevery where, due to people having bought in excess. France has reported 7,730 Coronavirus cases, and 175 deaths.

The parent company of brands like Christian Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy, LVMH has already issued a directive, that as of Monday 16 March 2020, they have started the production of the hydro alcoholic gel or hand sanitizers. These hand sanitizers will be given free of cost to the French health authorities and the Assistance Publique-Hospitaux de Paris, a network of 39 teaching hospitals that treats more than 8 million patients each year.The hand sanitizer has to have 60% alcohol to be effective against Coronavirus.

However, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says washing hands with soap and water is still the best way to prevent transmission of the coronavirus. In a press release, the Company spokesperson said, “Through this initiative, LVMH intends to help address the risk of a lack of product in France and enable a greater number of people to continue to take the right action to protect themselves from the spread of the virus.”
